Zwieback crackers and baby cookies are good choices, although they are messy. If your child is still an older baby or if she is a toddler, give her a solid that dissolves quickly. You can also add wheat germ to her food to get her used to texture. As she adjusts to the new texture, add additional crumbs. Allow her to become used to the new texture. Instead of introducing, for example, whole graham crackers all at once, crumble a graham cracker into small crumbs, then mix the crumbs into your child’s smooth food. If your child has motor skill delays, this may extend to delays in learning how to chew properly. When he puts a piece of food into his mouth, he may chew it a few times, try to swallow, then begin choking on the food. If your child is older and does not seem to have any problems accepting foods with texture, such as peas, chicken or mashed potatoes, the gagging issue may come from chewing problems. He may get around this issue by spitting out lumpy bits and swallowing the smooth foods. If he is still an infant, this may lead him to refuse to try new foods with any amount of texture. This is scary, not only for you, but for your child. If a bit of a new food touches the back of your child's throat, where the gag reflex is located, it can stimulate the gag/vomit cycle. ![]() Please refer to our FSG - Financial Products. ![]() From Wednesday 19 October, you'll be able to stream the new season on Paramount Plus.ĭisclaimer - Hive Empire Pty Ltd (trading as, ABN: 18 118 785 121) provides factual information, general advice and services on a range of financial products as a Corporate Authorised Representative (432664) of Centra Wealth Pty Ltd AFSL 422704. In any case, do remember the ongoing costs of buying replacement toner cartridges in the future. However, having copies and print-outs in colour can make a big difference when you're presenting documents to employees, colleagues, partners, and so on – not something to be overlooked. So, it’s important to consider what exactly you’re looking for in a photocopier so you're not investing in something you don't need – although highly practical multi-function devices can really contribute to day-today operations in an office.Īnother key consideration is: do you need a colour or a black and white photocopier?īlack and white photocopiers are less expensive, firstly because you only have to buy one toner, secondly because the technology involved is slightly less complex. The main photocopier features available are: These days, modern high-end photocopiers can ‘do all but the washing up' – that is to say, they can offer several functions in one unit. Note: photocopiers have scan-memory, so if you you’re dealing with sensitive information and decide to sell your copier, be sure to wipe its memory first. However, a photocopier’s lifespan is typically five to ten years, so don’t invest in kit that’s going to become outdated within six months. ![]() This means that hereinafter you will be using Cloudflare as nameservers for your domain. If you don't use Cloudflare yet, create an account and follow the simple instructions to add your domain to Cloudflare. This is the part that requires a bit more steps. Documentation about iDrive e2 is still not great, but luckily I found that it supports S3 bucket policies, so that's what I recommend you do.įirst, you need to install the AWS CLI on your computer and configure credentials (see docs in the link) then create a file somewhere (say /tmp/policy.json) with the following content: What you want to do instead, is to configure a bucket policy that only allows public reads, while requiring authentication and authorization for any other action. ![]() This makes the bucket public for both reads and writes, meaning that third parties would also be able to modify the content of your bucket, which is probably not what you want. Upon request (for now, but they are going to make this possible in the control panel soon), they can make your bucket public, but don't do that. I should mention that it is possible to solve the problem with public URLs mentioned earlier by contacting support. So temporarily I used a simple Nginx container as a proxy in front of the bucket and that worked.Īfter spending some more time on it and also with some help from iDrive's support (which gave me good first impressions btw), I managed to get iDrive e2 working properly with Mastodon without a proxy container and behind Cloudflare, so I don't have to worry about egress bandwidth (iDrive e2, like Wasabi, has some limitations in this regard). Also iDrive is a company with a long experience with storage services like backup, so it should be reliable as well.Īt first, however, I couldn't get an iDrive e2 bucket to work with Mastodon out of the box because the files must be readable with public, non expiring URLs, and this was not possible with this new object storage service. I haven't done any benchmarks or other measurements but iDrive e2 seems even faster than Wasabi. So I opened an account and I was impressed right away by the control panel but also the performance of the bucket operations. I am not aware of a cheaper object storage service compatible with the S3 API. After 1 year it's $40/year, which is still cheaper than Wasabi. There is still an introductory offer for 1 whole Terabyte for just $4 for the first year, which is awesome. Wasabi is an awesome service, pretty fast and reliable, but I came across a newer service called iDrive e2 which is even cheaper and since Mastodon can use a lot of storage, I decided to try it. When I first set up my personal Mastodon instance ( here's how I did it and here is a follow up on how to set up a crossposter between Mastodon and Twitter), I used a Wasabi bucket to store my instance's media and assets. Last week I tried a method I found in a scribing thread posted here a few months ago. No need for two men or a lift! (We build mostly Euro style cabs, but it works as long as you have a space at the ceiling to raise the cabs 3/8" or so.) This also adds extra screws supporting the cabinet, which aren't visible inside the cabinet. The slop between the 2 pieces allows for walls not being straight - sometimes we need to shim the wall piece when the walls are out a lot. The uppers will then hang on the cleat and you can slide them around until ready to fasten. We then install the same piece on the wall with the tongue up and away from the wall, continuous and level. We rabbet one edge 1/4" high X 1/2" deep we install 1 piece on the top back of uppers with the tongue down and away from the box. We use a version of a Z clip, which we make from 3/4" X 3 1/2" plywood. Check walls for plumb when measuring the job and that should tell you. It depends on the quality of work needed, I guess.ġ/2" scribe is usually plenty for lowers and uppers tall cabinets might need more. Not everybody scribes their cabinets - I have seen a lot of marginal work done by others. They are used for full height paneling and other applications. Z clips are generally used in commercial work, although residential sometimes requires this. The average scribe is 1/2", but surveying the walls is the best way to determine the overall scribe. Scribes for upper cabinets are generally used when it is high-end millwork. That way, when I draw the cabinet up tight to the wall, the knife-like edge of the 30-degree bevel actually cuts into the sheet rock for a "blackout" fit. I like to bevel my scribe cuts severely (30 degrees) and cut them "heavy". For high-end kitchens, these unusually out of plumb conditions were accommodated in the shop by providing extra scribe material on the cabinets or end panels. Refrigerator end panels and the like were usually sized an inch or so over, and scribed.ĭuring the first early walk-through for a kitchen, I'm always on the lookout for walls that are way out of plumb. The custom shops I installed for typically provided 1/2 an inch of extended scribe material on the back of the cabinet, and this worked in most cases. ![]() If it's production work, a scribe mold often is acceptable (the profile I use is most closely compared to door stop). It tends to be the higher end kitchens I install that get scribed to the walls. ![]() Does everyone scribe cabinet uppers and lowers to the wall? If yes, how much overhang do you need on the back of the cabinet? Do any of you use Z-clips to attach the cabinets? Does it help with scribing? The first Royal 500 was hand wired and had a metal chassis! The fifth generation Zenith 500 was the 500H. The TR-1 and TR-1G used an odd 22.5 volt battery which can be found in limited quantities today but are pricey.Įarly Zenith radios like the Royal 500 series are also worthy of having in a collection. I found a red TR-1 at a flea market two years ago and only paid $100. It may be a few years until you find one but think of the fun you’ll have searching and the money you’ll save. If you really want to find a great deal on a Regency TR-1 I suggest frequenting your local flea markets, garage sales and antique markets. These later examples command top dollar on Ebay. The more basic ivory and grey cabinets will fetch less money than the “mandarin” red and black.įor a brief period TR-1s were released in very attractive pearlescent pink and light blue colors as well as swirled, jade green and mahogany. ![]() They can be found on Ebay ranging in price from $300 to $1000 depending on color. As a transistor radio collector I think it’s important to have one example of this historic radio in your collection. During times of emergencies, all stations except the CONELRAD stations at 6 AM would cease operations (note that some Japanese radios made by Sharp and Hitachi during the late 50’s left out the CD marks).Īmerican companies were the first out of the solid-state-radio gate with the release of the Regency TR-1 on (it sold well into 19 as the re-designed TR-1G and TR-4). CONELRAD established two civil defense frequencies, 6 kilohertz. To counteract the potential for a Russian air attack on North America the US Government enacted the CONELRAD program, which stood for CONtrol of ELectromagnetic RADiation. CD stood for Civil Defense and was taken very seriously in the 50’s and 60’s due to the communist “red scare.” These are CD marks, which appeared on all radios manufactured or sold in the U.S. One easy way to date a transistor radio to this period is to look for small triangles or circles between the 6 & 7 and the 12 & 16 on the dial. Generally, the most collectable and historic transistor radios are those made in Japan from 1956 to 1963 and America from 1955-60. There are a few exceptions which I will talk about shortly. What we’ve realized over the years is that these radios are not as rare or scarce as once thought. They predate eBay and the quoted prices are often higher than present day values. Most of the price guides on the market were released well over ten years ago during the first “wave” of transistor radio collecting. I suggest spending some time on the internet or scanning the pages of the few transistor radio price guides to research makes and models. Have fun and buy radios that appeal to your personal tastes. ![]() Sure, you’ll want some key radios but make sure you collect what you like. Although the main focus of this article is to broaden your knowledge base, make sure you don’t just collect for investment or get caught up in only possessing what are considered “must haves”. By your fourth radio you will be considered a “collector” and will be hooked! There will be no turning back from the appeal of these mid-century, technical and artistic marvels.īefore spending too much money I recommend you take some time, do your homework and educate yourself. Well, be warned! If you buy one transistor radio it will most likely grow to two, then three. Perhaps you recently saw a picture of a cool looking pocket radio from the early 1960’s and were reminded of your carefree, youthful days? Maybe it was the pastel colors or atomic aged designs that caught your eye? Or the chrome highlights that attracted your attention? Nonetheless, you find yourself actively seeking them out at the local flea market or surfing eBay for a good deal. ![]() Michael Jack, whose personal Flickr website is a member of our Hall of Fame, is a collector of vintage transistor radios. |
